Divination, dreams and destiny at Taproot Theatre
The Puget Sound’s weekly roundup of arts, culture, and community | July 10 to 16, 2026
We all know the story, right? One brother is loved by his father more than all the others and jealousy causes a chain of events that eventually lead to the Pharaoh of Egypt. It is sibling rivalry at its worst. And yet, a beautiful story of redemption, hope and faith comes out of the messy prologue.
The beloved story takes new shape at Taproot Theatre with their rendition of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat. Their production “is framed through the lens of a youth performing arts summer camp” giving the 1974 musical new life.
In addition to a renewed staging, Taproot chose this production to celebrate their 50th Anniversary Season by asking community members to share their own dreams and hopes for the future. Selected responses have been worked into the titular dreamcoat itself, bringing a personal and modern touch to the costume piece. — Ciara
