Thank you for being here, and for joining us for Dolly!
Wrapped in rhinestones, heart, and harmony, this concert follows a journey. We begin in the rhythm of building something meaningful, move through love and vulnerability, and spend some time in the tension of a world that is overwhelming and divided. In Act 2, we find our way toward something brighter: renewal, hope, and pure joy! Dolly’s music carries all of that with honesty, humor, and heart.
Along the way, we also get to celebrate a little. And yes, when it came time to choose the right song to send Chris off, I did consider my options. Wrecking Ball wouldn’t have been totally out of line. The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas carries its own profound truths. And the number of times he’s said to me, “Why’d you come in here looking like that?” is too many to count. But I landed on Wildflowers. This lesser-known song off the Trio album has a spirit of resilience, independence, and unique beauty that captures this moment and Chris beautifully.
For the San Francisco Gay Men’s Chorus, these songs connect to our lives and our community. They reflect the courage it takes to keep showing up for one another and the joy that comes from doing that together. At the center of it all is something Dolly models so effortlessly: a kind of radical compassion that leads with warmth, humor, and a deep belief in people. So whether you’re here for the songs you know by heart, or you’re discovering something new, we invite you to settle in, have fun, and let the light of this music shine over you.

Biographies
Christopher Verdugo
Chief Executive Officer
Christopher Verdugo is a nonprofit arts leader with over 25 years of experience advancing social change through culture, community, and advocacy. He has served as CEO of the San Francisco Gay Men’s Chorus since 2016, where his bold and mission-driven leadership has transformed the organization into an internationally recognized force for social justice through music. Under his direction, the Chorus increased its annual budget fivefold, and opened the groundbreaking Chan National Queer Arts Center—the first facility of its kind dedicated to queer arts in the United States. He also led the Chorus on its historic Lavender Pen Tour through the Deep South, using music to build bridges in communities facing anti-LGBTQ+ sentiment.
Before his tenure in San Francisco, Chris was Executive Director of the Gay Men’s Chorus of Los Angeles, where he doubled the organization’s budget, elevated its artistic profile, and expanded educational programming in LA high schools. He sits on the Board of Directors of Chorus America and is frequently invited to speak on behalf of queer arts and cultural leadership. Chris has also collaborated with national advocacy leaders including the Human Rights Campaign, Equality California, GLAAD, Bienestar, and Queer Lounge at the Sundance Film Festival.

Artistic Director & Conductor
Under Jake’s leadership, SFGMC has launched new community initiatives and expanded programming, including national collaborations and innovative performances that center queer artistry, storytelling, and connection. Recent highlights include the Chorus’s Love Tour through the Midwest, headlining Outside Lands with Big Freedia, and local collaborations with SFBATCO, CheerSF, the Oakland Interfaith Gospel Choir, Another Planet Entertainment, the Midway, and the San Francisco Symphony. This season’s theme, “Shine,” reflects Jake’s commitment to using music to uplift, illuminate, and unite communities across the Bay Area and beyond. www.jacobstensberg.com
Mitch Galli
Associate Director of Music Education & Outreach
Mitch Galli (he/him) is a conductor, arranger, lyricist, educator, singer, and pianist. Originally from Williamstown, MA, Mitch holds a Bachelor of Arts in Music from St. Lawrence University and a Masters in Urban Education, Administration and Policy from Loyola Marymount University. He moved to the San Francisco Bay Area in 2012 as a corps member with Teach for America. Mitch taught high school Mathematics and Music for four years in Oakland, CA, and middle school music in San Francisco for one year. Mitch joined SFGMC in January 2015. He founded HomoPhonics, the Chorus’ a cappella ensemble in August 2015, which he still directs. HomoPhonics just released their FIRST album Hooked on HomoPhonics in May - find it on all streaming services! Mitch is also director of the Chorus’ educational outreach program, RHYTHM: Reaching Youth Through Music, which was established in February 2018. @mitchgalli
Danny Sullivan
Principal Accompanist & Music Supervisor
Danny Sullivan (he/him) is a collaborative pianist, arranger, and music director who earned his degree in Piano Performance and Pedagogy from Berklee College of Music. He joined the San Francisco Gay Men’s Chorus in 2023 as Principal Accompanist and Music Supervisor. He has performed solo pianist works with SFDanceWorks, Smuin Ballet, and San Francisco Ballet School, where he taught music classes for ten years and continues to accompany. A versatile artist, Danny has performed in musical theatre, opera, and cabaret productions from national tours to regional stages in Boston, Seattle, and San Francisco. Catch him performing at Lady Camden’s Peach Pit Cabaret this August, plus his all new solo concert Don’t Stop Be-leaf-ing: An 80’s Odyssey + SF Ballet’s Dance-Along Extravaganza at SF Botanical Garden’s Flower Piano Music Festival in September.
Wil Wright
Director of Operations & Production
Wil Wright works at the intersection of people, process, and performance. He transforms artistic vision into experiences that feel both expansive and deeply human. Since joining SFGMC in 2012, he has grown with the organization, strengthening its infrastructure while supporting the Chan National Queer Arts Center’s emergence as a nationally recognized home for queer arts and community. His leadership is defined by strategic rigor, collaborative practice, and a commitment to building sustainable systems that empower artists, audiences, and communities.
Steve Valdez
Choreographer
Steve Valdez has been the resident choreographer for SFGMC for the past 30 years. In addition to working with the wonderful singers and Artistic Directors over the years, he has had the pleasure of choreographing and staging works by Broadway icons Andrew Lippa and Stephen Schwartz. Steve received his dance training at San Jose State University and at the Marie Stinnett Dance Academy in Campbell, California. Steve credits much of his musical education to working in the live shows at the Great America Theme Park in shows staged by the late exceptionally talented choreographer, Jim Bates. Jim taught Steve how to get the most out of people with various dance ability levels and how to build a production number to its greatest climax. Steve is now retired and living in Palm Springs, but happily still gets to choreograph and stage for SFGMC.
