“Duel Reality” Brings Acrobatics and Shakespeare to Seattle Rep

While reimaginations of Romeo and Juliet are nothing new, The 7 Fingers, a theatrical circus collective from Quebec, brings a fresh perspective to the classic tale of doomed lovers. Through acrobatics, music, and storytelling, these performers immerse audience members directly into the epic tale of two dueling houses through participation that makes the audience complicit in the drama.

Through competing acrobatics, where each performer is able to exhibit their particular specialty, the houses of Capulet and Montague replace sword fights with gravity-defying acts that will make you cheer, scream, and gasp. While a competition takes place, we are reminded of the union that is at the center of the story and a poignant moment comes when the referee has to redraw the line separating the two houses, after Romeo and Juliet had erased it through their dual performance.
