This weekend, San Francisco Playhouse is offering haptic tours before their live captioned performance of Hairspray. On August 2 at 12:30 p.m., audience members with visual accessibility needs can explore spaces in the theatre to give them more understanding of the performance they will hear through live description at the 2 p.m. showing.
The haptic tour allows patrons to move through performance area, touching costumes, set pieces, props, and more. Later, when the curtain rises, they can enjoy the show with a live audio track spoken by a professional audio describer, giving them descriptions of movement and other visual details.
San Francisco Playhouse offers a haptic tour and audio described performance for every mainstage show of the season, opening the theatre to those who may have felt ignored or unaccommodated in the past. — Ciara
