The Lion Roars, the Pigeon Coos, the Ghost Howls...and Everyone Belongs
The Puget Sound’s weekly roundup of arts, culture, and community | December 12 to 18, 2025
Taking kids of all sensory needs to the theatre can be a mix of excitement and “uh-oh”—and that’s exactly why relaxed and sensory-sensitive performances exist. These special showings let families soak in the magic of live theatre without worrying about staying perfectly still or whispering at all times. Lights are a little softer, sounds a little gentler, and moving around, chatting, or taking breaks is totally okay. For many parents, it’s a rare chance to enjoy a holiday outing knowing their child is fully welcome just as they are.
This season in Seattle, shows like The Lion King at Broadway at the Paramount, A Christmas Carol at Union Arts Center, and The Pigeon Gets a Big Time Holiday Extravaganza! at Seattle Children’s Theatre are embracing this inclusive spirit. From Simba’s roar to holiday cheer and pigeon-sized antics on stage, these relaxed performances open the door to wonder. Kids of all sensory needs can experience the joy, the laughter, and the shared awe of live theatre—while families create moments of pure connection that linger long after the curtain falls.
