About the Paramount
Welcome to The Paramount Theatre, one of five historic venues operated by Seattle Theatre Group (STG). We’re proud to be the owner and steward of this magnificent theatre, which has brought arts goers to Downtown Seattle for nearly 100 years.
Opened in 1928 as an opulent movie palace and vaudeville theatre, The Paramount has hosted countless live performances spanning nearly every genre and format. It’s a living museum for entertainment in our city and a reminder of the collective power of the arts to transform lives, bring people together, and inspire future generations.
We’re lucky to be together in this treasured landmark venue today. After years of financial difficulty throughout the 80s and early 90s, Ida Cole, a former Microsoft vice president, was determined to restore the theatre to its former glory. She purchased the theatre and re-established the nonprofit Seattle Landmark Association, which is now STG. An eight-month renovation included a stage expansion; plaster and gold leaf restoration; installation of state-of-the-art sound and lighting; and extension of the back wall to accommodate new load-in, new dressing rooms, and increased electrical capacity. Preserving and modernizing The Paramount was Ida’s gift to Seattle. We have endless gratitude for her commitment to ensuring millions of people can enjoy live performance in it for decades to come and are thrilled that we'll get to celebrate its centennial in 2028.
STG is a nonprofit arts organization and independent event promoter that is deeply connected to the diverse community we serve. Between live events presented at the family of historic venues we steward (The Paramount Theatre, The Moore Theatre, The Neptune Theatre, The 5th Avenue Theatre, and Kerry Hall) and through our Education & Community Engagement programming, we serve over 1 million Puget Sound residents annually with nearly 2,000 events. The Paramount is at the heart of what we do, and we’re thrilled that you’ve chosen to experience the best of the arts in Seattle here with us today. Now sit back, relax, and enjoy the show!
