The strength of storytelling in Seattle Rep’s upcoming season
The Puget Sound’s weekly roundup of arts, culture, and community | April 3 to April 9, 2026
One of Seattle’s oldest and most respected theatre companies, Seattle Rep has put purely human stories at the heart of their seasons since 1963, and their next season is no exception. Under the leadership of Artistic Director Dámaso Rodríguez and Managing Director Jeffrey Herrmann, Seattle Rep presents seven mainstage productions.
Starting the season early in July is the musical adventure Freak the Mighty. This world premiere from the producers of the local favorite Come From Away follows two young friends in a relatable coming-of-age story as they overcome challenges side by side. Next is Tony-Award winning Eureka Day, a satire of the (sometimes) over involved parents of private school students as they meet with administrators in a chaotic, yet well meaning, committee meeting. Leading up to the holiday season, the Cornley Drama Society returns to the Bagley Wright Theater with their newest production Peter Pan Goes Wrong. Created by the comedic geniuses behind The Play That Goes Wrong, this production is just as messy and hectic as Cornley tries to stage Peter Pan. While the play may not be a success, audiences are sure to leave feeling happy.
The new year brings John Proctor is the Villain. High school students dive into a piece that is all too familiar in classrooms across the country: The Crucible. However, rather than staying in a safe discussion, the themes and issues of the play they are reading become all too real in their own lives. Following at the intimate Leo K. Theater is Intimate Apparel, written by Pulitzer Prize winner Lynn Nottage. In 1905, a seamstress gets caught up in multiple romances, while fighting for her own independence.
In the spring, a musical mastermind (who is also a little crazy) is the focus of jealousy and rivalry from a court composer. The lavish period piece Amadeus is a Tony and Oscar-winning story that takes a new look at a very old story. And closing the season, You Are Cordially Invited to the End of the World! at Seattle Rep. This new play by local favorite Keiko Green is a family drama soaked in imagination, as the narrator struggles with the cancer diagnosis of their father.
Laughter, tears, music to move to. The shows of the 2026/27 season will seep deep into your soul and challenge your views of the world and relationships, ultimately proving community and connection are possible through storytelling. – Ciara
