Welcome to The Pride Concert.
Each June, we gather in celebration—of who we are, who we’ve been, and who we are becoming. Tonight, we honor the brilliance and truth of trans and nonbinary voices. These stories and songs are not just performance - they are declarations of presence, power, and possibility. They remind us that pride is not a passive feeling, but a living force we create together.
In this moment, when LGBTQ+ people—especially trans and nonbinary individuals—are being targeted across the country, visibility becomes an act of courage. Singing out becomes an act of resistance. And showing up, as you have tonight, becomes an act of love. This evening is a space for celebration, reflection, and deep listening. You’ll hear voices that have too often been silenced—and witness what happens when they are lifted in harmony.
We invite you to let this music move you. Let it inspire you to speak louder, love bolder, and stand stronger. Because the times are indeed changing—but only if we make them. Thank you for being here, for being part of this chorus, and for helping create a world where every voice can be heard.
Happy Pride,
Christopher Verdugo & Jake Stensberg

Christopher Verdugo
Chief Executive Officer
Christopher Verdugo is a nonprofit arts leader with over 25 years of experience advancing social change through culture, community, and advocacy. He has served as CEO of the San Francisco Gay Men’s Chorus since 2016, where his bold and mission-driven leadership has transformed the organization into an internationally recognized force for social justice through music. Under his direction, the Chorus increased its annual budget fivefold, and opened the groundbreaking Chan National Queer Arts Center—the first facility of its kind dedicated to queer arts in the United States. He also led the Chorus on its historic Lavender Pen Tour through the Deep South, using music to build bridges in communities facing anti-LGBTQ+ sentiment.
Before his tenure in San Francisco, Chris was Executive Director of the Gay Men’s Chorus of Los Angeles, where he doubled the organization’s budget, elevated its artistic profile, and expanded educational programming in LA high schools. He sits on the Board of Directors of Chorus America and is frequently invited to speak on behalf of queer arts and cultural leadership. Chris has also collaborated with national advocacy leaders including the Human Rights Campaign, Equality California, GLAAD, Bienestar, and Queer Lounge at the Sundance Film Festival.

Jacob Stensberg
Artistic Director & Conductor
Jacob Stensberg is thrilled to be ushering in his second season as the conductor and artistic director of the San Francisco Gay Men’s Chorus and the Chan National Queer Arts Center. Prior to his appointment with SFGMC, he was the assistant director for Purdue Musical Organizations at Purdue University in West Lafayette, Indiana. In addition to his work at Purdue, Mr. Stensberg enjoyed working with Butler University choirs and orchestras, the Indianapolis Symphonic Choir, the Circle City Chamber Choir, the Booth Tarkington Civic Theater, Zach&Zack Productions, BOBDIREX, the Eclectic Pond Theatre Company, and the Civic Theater of Lafayette. Mr. Stensberg’s inaugural season with the SFGMC included a record-setting Holiday Spectacular, two record-setting spring performances of Disney PRIDE in Concert, and his debut conducting the San Francisco Symphony in partnership with SFGMC last July on Hello Yellow Brick Road. He received his formal and formative training from Dr. Kristina Boerger at Carroll University in Waukesha, Wisconsin, where he earned a bachelor of music education. He earned his master of music in conducting.

Mitch Galli
Associate Director of Music Education & Outreach
Mitch Galli (he/him) is a conductor, arranger, lyricist, educator, singer, and pianist. Originally from Williamstown, MA, Mitch holds a Bachelor of Arts in Music from St. Lawrence University and a Masters in Urban Education, Administration and Policy from Loyola Marymount University. He moved to the San Francisco Bay Area in 2012 as a corps member with Teach for America. Mitch taught high school Mathematics and Music for four years in Oakland, CA, and middle school music in San Francisco for one year. Mitch joined SFGMC in January 2015. He founded HomoPhonics, the Chorus’ a cappella ensemble in August 2015, which he still music directs. Mitch is also director of the Chorus’ educational outreach program, RHYTHM: Reaching Youth Through Music, which was established in February 2018. He has conducted SFGMC in performances across the country including Park City, UT, at Outfest Film Festival in Los Angeles, and Charleston and Greenville, South Carolina.

Danny Sullivan
Principal Accompanist & Music Supervisor
Originally from Bellingham, WA, Danny earned a Bachelor of Music from Berklee College of Music concentrated in Piano Performance & Pedagogy. Prior to joining SFGMC in 2023, he was Music Faculty and Staff Pianist at San Francisco Ballet School, Pianist at Pacific Northwest Ballet, Boston Ballet, and Boston Conservatory. He continues to accompany classes at Smuin Ballet, ODC, SFDanceworks & SFBallet School, where he developed and taught a Music Class for Dancers. He’s music directed or played keyboard for dozens of Musical Theatre, Cabaret, & Opera productions ranging from National Tours to local productions in Boston, Seattle & San Francisco. Favorites include An American In Paris, Hello Dolly, Shrek, The Color Purple, Into The Woods, and Chicago. He performs annually during SF Botanical Garden’s Flower Piano, and his orchestrations can be heard at a SFGMC Performance near you! He has found SFGMC’s mission of creating change through music to be incredibly inspiring & necessary work, and is thrilled to be a part of it!

Wil Wright
Director of Operations & Production
Wil Wright (he/him) is the Director of Operations & Production for the San Francisco Gay Men’s Chorus and Chan National Queer Arts Center. His career started with SFGMC in 2012 as a volunteer stage manager and he has continued to grow with the organization. Prior to SFGMC he worked for Feinstein’s at the Nikko and BroadwaySF. He originally fell in love with technical theatre and theatre arts administration in Atlanta, Georgia working as both a stage manager for Dad’s Garage Theatre and the box office manager for The Center for Puppetry Arts. He lives in San Francisco with his partner and their two French bulldogs. They spend much of their time attending live performances locally, on Broadway, and abroad.

Steve Valdez
Choreographer
Steve Valdez has been the resident choreographer for SFGMC for the past 29 years. In addition to working with the wonderful singers and Artistic Directors over the years, he has had the pleasure of choreographing and staging works by Broadway icons Andrew Lippa and Stephen Schwartz. Steve received his dance training at San Jose State University and at the Marie Stinnett Dance Academy in Campbell, California.
The best job Steve ever had was working at Great America Theme Park in the live shows—where else could you be 18 years old, doing what you love, and getting paid very well for doing it? Steve credits much of his musical education to those shows at Great America and to the exceptionally talented choreographer Jim Bates, who taught Steve how to get the most out of people with various dance ability levels.
In addition to performing and choreographing for SFGMC, Steve has been a frequent performer at Feinstein’s in the “Caba-Ray” shows. When not performing, Steve can be found enjoying the wonderful city of San Francisco and all it has to offer. He wishes to thank everyone at SFGMC for the love and support they have shown him over the years.
