Harlequin Productions has announced that their 2026 season will include accessible performance options. Which means we at Encore are welcoming a new member into our growing lineup of inclusive and accessible performances.

As a reader, you may have noticed that for the past two years we have strived to become a home where all accessible options in the Puget Sound (and Bay Area) can live. We know that searching for ASL interpretation, sensory friendly, and other inclusive choices can be a struggle, which is why we introduced our Accessibility Guides and our monthly accessible performance announcements.

And now we have even more to add to the mix. Harlequin Productions in Olympia is a professional, not-for-profit theatre company, offering insightful stories and beloved musicals. In their upcoming season, which begins with Wait Until Dark next month, they will now offer closed captioning, audio description, and sensory-friendly performances, in addition to community talkbacks. At these performances, patrons will have access to large-print and Braille programs.

“Accessibility in the theatre is about ensuring that the transformative power of the performing arts is available to everyone,” said Board Member and Education & Access Committee Chair Kate Faro. “Inclusive practices ensure people with varying needs can fully engage. And while accessibility is essential for some, it benefits a wide range of people.”

Keep an eye out for specific performance dates beginning next month, as we will include them in our Newsletter, giving you a direct line into a wide range of accessible performances from organizations across the region.
