Before all the parties and the hangovers from sweets and drinks, celebrate Halloween with something a little more chill, but still chilling. SFJAZZ presents the 1920 silent film Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde with live organ accompaniment. Starring John Barrymore in the titular role(s), the film will be screened at Grace Cathedral with Dorothy Papadakos playing their famous pipe organ. All these elements combine to create an eerie environment for the evening.

There’s nothing more classic for Halloween than the story that started our long obsession with vampires. TheatreWorks presents its last weekend of Dracula and if you haven’t taken our previous advice to see it yet, this is your last chance. Blood and death mix with seduction and love to create something that will have you newly obsessed with gothic horror.

A little looser, a little funkier: a double feature of two tales come together for a one-night only show on Halloween. Presented by BATS Improv, Double Creature includes one story that will take you to outer space where we all know only fuzzy and cute creatures live. The second takes you back in time to the slasher days of the 1980s. While you can expect the stories to lean into the spooky and creepy, there’s not much else that’s guaranteed in this improvised show. — Ciara
